Google Webmaster Tools Now Tracks Indexed URLs For Specific Sections Of Your Website, Including HTTPS

Google announced today on their Webmaster Central blog that Webmaster Tools’ Index Status feature will now offer more precise data for different site variations. Google says over the past few months they have been hearing users say they would like Webmaster Tools to track indexed URLs for sections of their website that use HTTPS.

Previously, Google Webmaster Tools didn’t show index status data for HTTPS websites on their own, instead everything was grouped together in the HTTP site’s report. Responding to a rise in the amount of URLs that use a secure connection to transfer data over HTTPS, Google says they are happy to announce the Index Status feature now tracks your site’s indexed URLs for each protocol (HTTP and HTTPS) as well as for verified subdirectories.

For example, if you have and the URLs now show their own data in Webmaster Tools Index Status report, as long as they are verified separately.

In order to have your data reported correctly, you will need to verify all existing variants of your site (www., non-www., HTTPS, subdirectories, subdomains) in Google Webmaster Tools. Google recommends that your preferred domains and canonical URLs are configured accordingly.

Google also notes in their announcement that that if you wish to submit a Sitemap, you will need to do so for the preferred variant of your website, using the corresponding URLs. Robots.txt files are also read separately for each protocol and hostname.

Google Revamps Restaurant Search For Android, What This Means For Marketers

Google announced they have recently made changes to the restaurant search experience on Android by allowing users to filter results by price, ratings, cuisine, and what’s open right now.

You can activate this new feature by inputting the command “show me restaurants in [location]” into the Google search bar. Once a list of results is populated you will have the option to filter the results by the parameters of your choice.

This feature currently only works in the United States, but Google says to “stay tuned” which presumably means they have plans to roll out the feature to other countries.

What is Meta Title?

Title is the most important factors for a good SEO of a webpage. These tags should be located within head section. These tags should tell some useful information about that page. A good title tag should contain 60 characters. These titles would appear on the SERP for your website along with the Meta description of that page. Google won't penalize your page if it contains title with more than 60 characters and it skips the remaining characters. If a web page doesn't contain title tag means Google would select the H1 tag as title or it will provide the title by its own.

Always write title tag for the page and not for SEO, if you stuff keywords in you title then Google won't rank your webpage.

What is Meta Description?

A description tag should describe a webpage and it should contain keywords but don't stuff all the keywords. Meaningless description would affect your webpage. A description tag should contain 150 – 160 characters. If you provide meaningless or empty description, Google would take the description from the content available in that page.

What are Meta Keywords?

In early days Meta keywords are the least important tag for Search engine like Google. But it is an easy way to tell our important keywords to search engine. Meta keywords should contain less than 250 characters.
Now Google won't consider Meta keywords as one of the ranking factor.
